Product Review: Nyx's Lip Lingerie in Exotic

Hello again, makeup junkies! Since I was MIA for more than six months, I am making up for it by bombarding you with posts before 2017 ends. Lol!

Today, I will be doing a review of Nyx's Lip Lingerie liquid lipstick. Just a disclaimer, this is not a new lip product, in fact, this came sometime late last year when everyone was all about nude/brown lips.

They released new shades since then and are now offering 24 shades (not all 24 are available in the Philippines). But since it looks like the nude lip trend is staying for a while, I thought, I might as well do this review late than never.

Anyway, let's go back to the review. There is indeed a nude shade for everyone.

These liquid lipsticks are very reminiscent of their soft matte lip creams. It has the same soft, creamy/moussey formula that does not dry the lips out. The only major difference is the smell. Their lip creams smell amazing, like vanilla, while these lip lingeries smell slightly of paint, although it goes away pretty quickly as soon as you apply it. It also dries down to a true matte, dries faster and lasts longer than the lip creams. It comes in a long clear sturdy plastic tube with a black cap and the standard doe foot applicator albeit flatter. By now, you probably have heard of Nyx coming out with yet another liquid lipstick line called Liquid Suedes, but I have yet to try them. For this review, we're going to talk about the shade, Exotic.

This shade is a muted red (on Nyx's website they refer to it as a mahogany red) and is not something I would really consider as a nude shade, but, hey it's a lovely color, so who am I to complain. In fact, one can wear it everyday or at work without it being too loud, perfect for those who can't or don't want to wear bright reds at work but still want to look polished.

Aside from the items already mentioned above, I feel these lip lingeries tend to settle on the lines  or dry patches on my lips, accentuating them more. But, the plus side is, it stays put for about 5 hours (unless you eat something greasy or oily) and it fades evenly.

Priced at Php 460-490, this may be slightly more expensive than your average drugstore lipstick, however, I'd still say it is a good buy as eventhough it costs more, you don't have to reapply as much as you would a regular lipstick.

My final verdict, a must buy and something I would repurchase! In fact, I ordered two other shades, Embellishment and Ruffle Trim and I am set to get a new tube of Exotic as I am almost out. Looks like I'll be rocking this shade until next year!

Unboxing: Althea Korea's Holiday Edition Gold Sparkling Box #38 (2017)

Hello, makeup junkies, yes I am back... Just in time before the new year starts. We are ending 2017 with a bang!

And today, we are unboxing, you guessed it, one of Althea Korea's holiday boxes. I have been dying to try (ordering from) Althea Korea's (website) for the longest time but haven't really found justification for the delivery/shipping fee, until I saw their holiday boxes.

This year, they went all out and came out with 3 boxes: red, black, and gold. And of course, I had to go with the gold one. :)

By the way, it took about two weeks for the box to arrive I've almost forgotten it. What I do like about it is I didn't have to pay extra for customs even though it came from Korea, since Althea has partnered with a local courier to ship the boxes. Oh and I also liked that it came in a Christmas themed box! (What can I say, I'm a sucker for cute packaging) 😊. Product Review: BH Cosmetics x Carli Bybel's Eyeshadow and Highlighter Palette

Are you looking for a relatively cheap palette that would give you great everyday looks?

Your prayers have been answered, makeup junkies. Presenting, the palette I've been obssessed with for the last couple of months: Carli Bybel's palette in collaboration with BH Cosmetics!

This baby includes 10 eyeshadows (5 mattes plus 5 shimmers/satin) and 4 highlighters!

If you like watching YouTube videos of makeup gurus, you've probably come across Carli Bybel. She is one of the prettiest and nicest makeup enthusiasts in the YouTube community and I'm happy that she was given the opportunity to collaborate with a good brand like BH Cosmetics. When she created this palette, she said she wanted it to be affordable, but still of good quality. 

And boy, did she make sure to follow through with that vision...

I love how the glossy cardboard (with a magnetic closure) packaging is sleek, sturdy and easy to clean. Plus points for the mirror! I also love the details she included, from the adorable penguin on the side, and the cute flowers embossed on the highlighters, to the quote "Aspire to Inspire".

All the shadows are really easy to work with, pigmented and creamy. Even the matte ones. But, since they are soft and creamy they tend to kick up a lot of powder or have fall outs but that can be easily resolved by just tapping off the excess. I mean, for Php 1,100, this palette delivers more than I could ever dream of.

The first row has 4 matte shades that are mostly shades of pink or lilac.

I love the first row! And even though some of the shades are very similar on the eyes, I still use them almost every single day.

The second row has a lot of golden/copper colors and are mostly shimmers.

Since I already have several palettes with golds, coppers,  bronzes, and browns, I rarely use this row, but when I do, the looks I create always turn out really well.

The last row which is for the highlighters is my favorite! I mix the first two shades, go crazy, and put them everywhere! While the third and last one I use as a bronzer or eyeshadows.

Here's a look I created using the palette. I am not angry, the sun was just bright. Lol!

The transition shade I used on my crease is not part of the palette. I used my Bahama Mama bronzer from theBalm.

The verdict, this is an awesome palette! The only cons I see are, it's limited edition, there are shades that look really similar, the matte shades have fall out/kick up, and the lack of a brown matte transition shade, otherwise this is the perfect palette for me.

Unboxing: Saladbox x Benefit's Better Together February 2017 Box

February a.k.a the Love Month may have already ended but just before it did, Saladbox in collaboration with Benefit decided to show us how much love they have to give 💓! Presenting: February 2017's Better Together box.

Product Review: Zoeva's Naturally Yours Palette

If you are a makeup junkie like me, you probably have heard of the German brand, Zoeva. They are known for making high-quality brushes, and most recently, thanks to Kathleenlights, their Cocoa Blend Eyeshadow Palette. But since I already have a palette with shades similar to Cocoa Blend, I opted to go with something I thought I would be able use everyday, so I got every neutral lovers' dream palette, Naturally Yours. It has 10 shades, 5 of which are matte while the rest have satin/shimmer finishes.

This palette retails for about Php 1,060 on Sephora PH's website, which is a lot cheaper compared to brands like Tarte, Urban Decay or Too Faced.

It comes in a slim, sturdy, and light-weight cardboard packaging with a magnetic closure. Fantastic for travels! Sadly, it does not have a mirror.

Now, let's go through the shades.

Top Row:

Pure - a matte cream with a touch of pink. Great as a base or highlight for the browbone. 

Soft & Sexy - a matte warm milk chocolate/medium brown. I use this mainly as a transition shade.

Smooth Harmony - a shimmery duo chrome mauve/pink that shifts to a champagne gold in certain lights. 

Forever Yours - another duo chrome brown that's a bit darker than Soft & Sexy with blue/silver and green sheen. 

Slow Dance - a matte dark brown. My least favorite shade in the palette as it's not as pigmented as the others. Applies patchy and chalky, which is a bummer as it could have worked wonders in the outer V to give smoky looks more depth. 

Bottom Row:

First Love - another matte ivory cream that's good as a base or highlight in the inner corners of the eyes or browbone.

Casual Elegance - just like the name entails, a shimmery muted and elegant yellow gold. I use this all over the lids or just the center for shine and dimension.

Sweet Sound - one of my favorite shades in the palette. A rich shimmery copper which I use on the outer half of my lids. It can also work great as an all over the lid shade.

Lovely Monday - a dark brown with shimmer. A satin version of Slow Dance. It is also a little powdery but still better than Slow Dance.

Timeless Chic - a matte black. I use this instead (in place of a matte brown) on the outer Vs to deepen and darken the looks I create.

For the price, I'd say this is an okay palette. But, if you're just starting your makeup collection, this would be awesome and perfect for you! You can just get this one palette, and you're good to go. It's great for everyday/office wear and at the same time, still give you that party/glam look if necessary.

All their eyeshadows, with the exception of Slow Dance are highly-pigmented and are easy to blend. They last a long time on the lids and do not crease or fade even without a primer.

One of the very few cons I have to say about this palette is it's a bit powdery. Especially with the matte shades, which has a lot of kick back. Although one can just tap or knock the excess off one's brush to avoid fall-out. Another con would be, granted it is a neutral palette and they have limited colors to put in, some of the shades I feel are just too similar, which becomes more apparent when placed on the lid. And since (this is not the palette's fault by the way) I already have several palettes with a lot of browns, I feel the colors are repetitive and I almost always end up reaching for another palette (for a different color) to finish the looks I create.

So if you're lacking a neutral palette from your collection or you're just starting it, I say, go buy this, if not, then you don't have to rush online to purchase it. Although you may want to look at Zoeva's other palettes.

The first time I saw this on Mimi by Coffeeandsparklesbymimi, I went crazy! It looked soooo good on her! I instantly searched for it and saw it was available on Sephora PH's website for Php 804 (and during this time I started hearing angels sing 😇). I was waiting for the perfect opportunity to order it, as I couldn't bear paying extra for the shipping. So when they announced they had free shipping for Chinese New Year, I quickly submitted my order (it was in my cart for what felt like forever!). The package arrived in good condition a little over a week after placing the order. The packaging with its standard doe foot applicator and tube made of plastic isn't something that's really rave-worthy. It's what's inside that counts...

It reminded me a lot of Ofra's liquid lipsticks and NYX's soft lip creams as it is lightweight, but not runny, and also has a moussey consistency. It didn't feel sticky. In fact, it feels a bit powdery after it sets and most importantly, doesn't dry out my lips. It dries down matte (I don't think you can get any matte-r than this!), has a mild sweet smell and lasts an insanely long time. I can go the entire day without touching up, in fact I can still see traces of it after stepping out of the shower, and that's saying a lot since my facial wash has argan oil. However, with this being such a bold color, I wouldn't dare not to reapply after the 7th hour.

At around the 6th hour, if you have eaten anything oily and, if like me, have been drinking coffee/juice/tea non-stop, you'd start seeing the lip cream stain break down along the portions of where your lips are moist the most (inner and middle parts). You might also see a slight bleeding around the outside/outline (I didn't use a lipliner) of your lips. And if you have flakey/dry lips, some of the little bits may get inside your mouth or on your teeth. But even with those tiny flaws, I still love it as the color vibrancy is still spot on!

I have to say, this has got to be one of the best (and most gorgeous) if not, the best lip creams/liquid lipsticks I've ever tried and I can't recommend this enough! And if you're still undecided whether you should get this or not, let me just leave you with this swatch to torture and haunt you. Lol!
