Product Review: Meowliner by Skinpotions

At this time and age, convenience is something everyone is looking for.

In comes the stamping craze, from eyeshadow to eyebrows, people in the makeup industry has sought innovative ways to save girls (and boys) time and make their lives easier.

I have always been too intimidated by statement winged eyeliners/cat eyes and have opted to go small, almost imperceptible (wings), for my everyday makeup look. This is so I can minimize the possibilities of lopsided wings. So when I saw this winged eyeliner stamp, I got excited!

ABOUT THE BRAND

Skinpotions is a Filipino beauty brand that offers organic skincare and cosmetics at wallet-friendly prices. Made with natural ingredients, each Skinpotions product aims to enhance your skin and care for your complexion. Expect a soft, radiant, and flawless look.

WHAT TO LOVE

CLAIM TO FAME: An innovative dual-ended stamp eyeliner that’s smudge-proof and water-resistant

FAST FACTS: Stamping tip on one end quickly imprints a winged look onto outer corner; fine-tipped liner on opposite end completes the look by connecting thin to thick lines on the lash line; easily lets you perfect your cat eye game

PERFECT FOR: Eyeliner newbies

HOW TO USE

Stamp the winged part of the eyeliner on your outer eye. Using the same eyeliner, connect it on the rest of your lid by using the other side.

From www.beautymnl.com

It has a dual-ended tip with one having a traditional (which is slighty bigger/fatter than the standard pen eyeliners and is reminiscent of markers - it even smells, albeit faintly, like one) felt tip end that has a nice bend to it and is great at making thin and thick lines, while the other, has a perfectly-sized winged tip that is meant to be used by pressing/stamping on to the corners of the eyelids.

It is very easy to use, one just has to make sure it is aligned by placing across each other carefully to ensure even wings. It took me a couple of attempts to get used to it, but after getting more comfortable with it, the results I got were amazing!

I wasn't expecting much from it, to be honest. For P350, it was moderately priced. I was thinking it wouldn't be as pigmented as my other eyeliners and will probably smudge and run on me (the formula, is a little on the liquidy side). I wasn't really bothered as I only intended to use it as a stencil and layer on my preferred/usual eyeliner if worse comes to worst.

But, I was in for a pleasant surprise! Not only did it perform well in terms of making wings, it was also really black and matte, which is exactly what I want my eyeliner to be! Plus, it was pretty long lasting/smudge proof to boot!

Now, I can make perfect cat eyes in a jiffy! Definitely recommending this to those who don't want to spend too much time doing their eyeliners and to those who are struggling creating even wings.

P.S. If you're still on the fence about getting this, local beauty blogger, Martha Sta. Barbara a.k.a. the Beauty Junkee, has this on her list of top/best eyeliner for 2017 plus, local YouTube sensation, Anne Clutz, gave this a thumbs up/stellar review!

And that is it for today, makeup lovers, see yah next time!

Beauty Haul: YouTube Made Me Buy It!

Happy Monday, makeup junkies! It seems my love for makeup and all things pretty is insatiable. After my long hiatus and coming home to a pile of makeup packages, and getting backups for backups, I promised myself I will no longer be buying any (more) makeup unless I've ran out of them or they need to be replaced. But I guess, after destashing several palettes and with parties to attend coming up, I kinda gave in. Mind you, I exercised control (with great difficulty) and only got things I feel I would really be able to use. So I only purchased 4 items...

Okay, I lied, there's more than 4, but these are the ones I want to talk about today. Lol!

I purchased these online from an IG seller usmadefashion (she now has her own website http://usmfashion.com/).

For quite some time, I have been lusting after Becca's Backlight Priming Filter, and YouTubers have been raving about it for years, but I can't, even for the love of makeup, get myself to buy a 2k Php worth primer, so after seeing it on sale for the holidays, I quickly grabbed the opportunity to get one.

A makeup primer to help blur imperfections and impart a radiant glow.

More than just a primer, it's the secret behind the iconic BECCA glow. Infused with three unique Filtering Luminescent Pearls, each one adds a different drop of diffused light. Blended together, they result in a first of its kind, lightweight, whipped fluid that creates a smooth canvas and acts as an instant filter. Blurs imperfections and give skin a healthy, luminescent glow.

From www.ulta.com

Moving on to recently released products, last year Wet n' Wild took YouTube land by storm when they released these Photo Focus foundation and pressed/setting powder. In fact, up to now, they've been reformulating and releasing new products that are making such a buzz, it's exciting to see what else they have in store for us. And I hope they release it in the Philippines as well soon. By the way, I got these on sale too, they're normally priced at 500Php each but I was able to nab both of them for just 600php (300Php each).

  • Sets makeup with an unbelievably soft, satin finish

From www.wetnwildbeauty.com

And finally, the deal breaker and the primary reason why I temporarily suspended my no-buy status, Colourpop's Yes, Please! Pressed Powder Eyeshadow Palette (1200Php). I have seen pictures and reviews of this palette left and right and finally caved in.

The original fixed 12 pan palette is all about that golden hour glow - the hottest shades inspired by our fave time of the day.

I'll probably be doing a review of this palette soon. I just started using it and would need a few more days to come to a final verdict.

I'm excited to try all of these and see how good these products are myself. I'm sure just like the YouTubers who raved about them, I'll soon be loving them as well.

Product Review: Nyx's Lip Lingerie in Exotic

Hello again, makeup junkies! Since I was MIA for more than six months, I am making up for it by bombarding you with posts before 2017 ends. Lol!

Today, I will be doing a review of Nyx's Lip Lingerie liquid lipstick. Just a disclaimer, this is not a new lip product, in fact, this came sometime late last year when everyone was all about nude/brown lips.

They released new shades since then and are now offering 24 shades (not all 24 are available in the Philippines). But since it looks like the nude lip trend is staying for a while, I thought, I might as well do this review late than never.

Anyway, let's go back to the review. There is indeed a nude shade for everyone.

NUDES FOR ALL
Slip into something seductive with Lip Lingerie, our new weightless liquid lipstick with a plush matte finish. Each stunning shade is also enriched with vitamin E to help lips look and feel ultra-soft.

Description:
Slip into something seductive with Lip Lingerie, our luxurious liquid lipstick with a plush, Matte finish. Available in the color-kissed hues you know and love—from cinnamon pink and chocolate brown, to warm mahogany red and classic nude beige—plus, 12 brand-new nudes! Each sultry shade will coat the curves of your lips with irresistibly creamy color.

Ingredients:
Isododecane, Mineral Oil/Paraffinum Liquidum/Huile Minérale, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Polycyclopentadiene, Tocopheryl Acetate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Alumina, Barium Sulfate (CI 77120), Phenoxyethanol. MAY CONTAIN / PEUT CONTENIR (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Red 6 (CI 15850), Red 7 (CI 15850), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090). From www.nyxcosmetics.com

Image of the first 12 shades released from www.beautymnl.com

These liquid lipsticks are very reminiscent of their soft matte lip creams. It has the same soft, creamy/moussey formula that does not dry the lips out. The only major difference is the smell. Their lip creams smell amazing, like vanilla, while these lip lingeries smell slightly of paint, although it goes away pretty quickly as soon as you apply it. It also dries down to a true matte, dries faster and lasts longer than the lip creams. It comes in a long clear sturdy plastic tube with a black cap and the standard doe foot applicator albeit flatter. By now, you probably have heard of Nyx coming out with yet another liquid lipstick line called Liquid Suedes, but I have yet to try them. For this review, we're going to talk about the shade, Exotic.
This shade is a muted red (on Nyx's website they refer to it as a mahogany red) and is not something I would really consider as a nude shade, but, hey it's a lovely color, so who am I to complain. In fact, one can wear it everyday or at work without it being too loud, perfect for those who can't or don't want to wear bright reds at work but still want to look polished.

Aside from the items already mentioned above, I feel these lip lingeries tend to settle on the lines  or dry patches on my lips, accentuating them more. But, the plus side is, it stays put for about 5 hours (unless you eat something greasy or oily) and it fades evenly.

Priced at Php 460-490, this may be slightly more expensive than your average drugstore lipstick, however, I'd still say it is a good buy as eventhough it costs more, you don't have to reapply as much as you would a regular lipstick.

My final verdict, a must buy and something I would repurchase! In fact, I ordered two other shades, Embellishment and Ruffle Trim and I am set to get a new tube of Exotic as I am almost out. Looks like I'll be rocking this shade until next year!

Happy New Year and may your 2018 be as merry and bright as your ruby red lipsticks and sparkling glittery eyeshadows!

This Just In: Tarte, Joeur, Bench, Beauty Mnl Hauls

“You must first let go of the old before you can make room for the new.”

With the coming of the new month, comes new makeup. And to make room for them I decided to let go of some of my palettes. Now, this post is not really about those I let go of, but rather the new ones I acquired.

Let's start with the non-makeup items (but still beauty related) I got from Beauty MNL and Bench. I got myself some skincare products from Skin Genie. I loved the scrub included in my Saladbox so much, I had to try a few other items from them. It didn't hurt that Beauty MNL had free shipping until December 11 (up to 2 orders only) so I nabbed their Apple Cider Vinegar Cream (Php 350) and Pit Perfect Underam Whitening Cream (Php 200). They threw in a sachet of Coco's Secret Recipe Milk, from Dearberry for me to try, which was nice of them.

After hearing that Bench has launched some new makeup items I had to check them out after passing by one outlet. I heard their nail polishes (Php 59 each) were good, so I picked one to try and a matte top coat to change it up (it turns out I won't be needing the matte top coat for this polish as it already dries down matte) if I get bored. I got a gorgeous plum shade (Midnight Plum) that would look great this time of the year. Moving on to makeup, I also got an eyeshadow stick (Sandstone) for Php 149. It's a champange color that's not glittery and I intend to use it in the inner corners of my eyes to highlight and make them pop.

Next stop, the Tarte and Joeur products I got. Lately, I 've been obsessed with travel/deluxe-sized makeup items as they are cute, easy to slip in my bag/purse and are most of the time a steal, as I get the chance to try products without commiting to full-sized items (imagine if it turns out I don't like them) from expensive brands I would have otherwise not purchased. I've been dying to see if the hype surrounding Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes is real so I got one in the shade Oasis (Php 550) together with their Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara(Php 500). I've heard some of their blush shades, especially the ones included in their holiday sets have a different formula (being made in China and all), so I had to do extra research to make sure this shade is still the same old formula they used to have (review coming up soon).

From www.tartecosmetics.com

Yeah, that blush deserves another picture.

I also couldn't let some Joeur lip crèmes pass me by without trying them.

I've added them on my wishlist ever since I saw Allanarama talk about them on her videos. I got these lovely shades called Terra and Papaye. These are minis (4ml) which is around Php400.
Oh, hello there, beautiful swatches.

These next items from Etude House are things I didn't purchase but I actually won as the October commenter on Martha Sta. Barbara's blog (thanks again! ;)), www.thebeautyjunkee.blogspot.com, she holds a top commentor monthly giveaway there.

And that wraps up this month's haul! This should last me a lifetime (lol!) I think I won't be buying anything again until next year. Well, except for the subscription boxes, masks and palettes I already ordered and are on their way (Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas to me! 😂). Teehee!

Now, first off, don't get me wrong, I love how I got almost 3x the value of what I paid for. But, compared to their other exclusive boxes, this month's box is a let-down.

I was a bit disappointed since I received less items (than the last one). I would have gladly swapped the necklace and the discount coupon for a product I would really be able to use, like say, a mascara. I know their mascaras may be more costly, but hey, if they can afford to send us 6k worth of Inglot items, I don't see why they can't make/squeeze in a slightly better deal with EOH. I mean, they're selling EOH on their website, for cryin' out loud! UPDATE: I also would have loved their eyeshadow palette better if it had a matte crease/transition shade, then, it would have been the perfect travel palette. BDW, since these eyeshadows are baked, expect that they are drier compared to other eyeshadows (although they're powdery/chalky).
And after checking posts/reviews of their previous EOH exclusive box, I noticed they already sent out the same gold necklace last year. Yes, it's a beautiful necklace, and yes, I would most definitely wear it, but, why do they insist on sending these non-eye related item/s when they advertise the box to contain eye products? Plus, when I checked that box, it was when they were offering their boxes for around 500-700 pesos and the total amount of the products they got was almost the same as what I received now (I paid almost 1, 300 pesos before sf).

This box alone won't stop me from subscribing to their future boxes as I know I would still use and enjoy all of the items in this box (with the exception of the discount coupon) and I ended up getting my money's worth and more. Hopefully, their next box rocks my world!

'Till next time!

Product Review: Tony Moly's Tony Tint Delight in 02 Red

The first of the -ber months just ended and I can sense the hoilday traffic hovering over our heads, ready to descend on us at any moment. But, let's not fret and talk about good things instead. Like this new review I have for you, makeup junkies. 💄

Korean/Asian makeup has been all the craze right now, with the BB cushion foundation taking the makeup world by storm and the ombre lips following suit. Lip tints have been around for decades and are not necessarily asian/Korean, but this lip tint from Tony Moly (a Korean makeup brand) is a holy grail for some local YouTubers (ie. Anna Cay), I couldn't resist picking it up (or adding it to my cart 😉), eventhough I am not a huge fan of lip/cheek tints. I am not too fond of having to use it with my fingers and using it on both my cheeks and my lips (seems very unhygienic to me). What sets this apart from other lip tints? It's light-weight, gel-like consistency. I got this during National Lipstick Month/Day for Php 199 and I figured why not try it out and see what the fuss is about?

It comes in a slim, cute, and travel-friendly tube. I say cute because of it's heart-shaped cap. Although, this is not a new product of Tony Moly, they say the formula was revamped with the new packaging.
It has a long, slim wand with a slanted doe foot applicator to help you get the last bit of product (which I appreciate as I feel it's such a waste if I can't use all of it) and spread it evenly on your lips or cheeks.
I got it in 02 Red. I believe they also have it in Pink and Coral/Orange. Here's how the red one looks like swatched.

It smells fruity and sweet. It reminds me of strawberries (the artificial kind) a lot. It feels cool and light on the lips. It lasts for about 3 hours on me. It doesn't really stain the lips so it comes right off after eating or drinking. It can also feel a bit drying if worn too much for too long (I wear a balm underneath which could have been the reason why it only lasted 3 hours on me). I like how it instantly gives my lips color without looking heavy. I just have to remind myself not to get carried away as the color I got can get very bright and loud in an instant if I get too much product. You can also make ombre lips with this if you're into Korean makeup.

For the cheeks, however, it's a different story. During initial application, I loved the rosy glow it gave me. It looked so natural, (when used with a light hand and spread quickly and evenly) and it gave me the flushed look I wanted. But after several hours, I'm not sure if it's because my skin is no longer like a teen's or it's really because of the product, it  wore off uneven on me, making me look splotchy. It looked so bad my officemate asked me if I was okay because I looked like I had rashes. I literally had tiny red spots on my cheeks! I didn't want to give up on it so easily, so I tried a different foundation the next day to see if that could have been the reason, but the result was the same! Que horror!

So in reality, I could really only use this on my lips (which is initally what I intended to use it for anyway, because I didn't like having to use my fingers to spread it on my cheeks), and it works great. You just have to have a steady hand as the long, slim wand makes it a little tricky to apply. I either always mess up the sides of my lips or my lower lip. 😣 (A quick tip: Dot in the middle of your lips and spread it by pressing your lips together. Build it up if needed.) But, if you want to get this to use as a blush, beware! You have been duly warned.

Till my next post!

Product Review: Makeup Revolution's New-trals vs Neutrals Palette

Hello, makeup junkies! How's your weekend going? 😊

I have another MUR review to share with you lovelies, and this time it is for their New-trals vs Neutrals Professional Eyeshadow Palette. When I first saw this palette, I have to be honest, I was intimidated by it as it had a lot of reds and oranges. However, one of the more burgundy shades caught my eye as I have a similar shade, from the first of their I ♡ Chocolate palettes, that I learned to love and was now obsessed with. And when I saw that it was a dupe of Lime Crime's Venus palette and was considered to be very similar to Too Faced's recently launched Sweet Peach palette, I decided to "suck it up" and just add it to my cart. And I'm so glad I did!

The palette came in Makeup Revolution's standard black packaging with rose gold lettering. It's very similar to their Iconic Pro palettes except the case is matte. I love how sleek looking it is, but because of the finish it attracts fingerprints and dirt like crazy! It also comes with a good-sized mirror, a plastic sheet/film with the names of the shades on them, and a decent double-ended brush I can actually use. One side has a flat brush that's good for packing color while the other side is fluffy, that's perfect for blending.

The palette has 16 eyeshadows with the New-trals, their red and orange shades, at the top and the Neutrals, their toned-down/more normal looking shades at the bottom.

I know you're excited to see the palette some more and know how the shades held up, so let's go ahead and go through them one at a time.

  • Bias - a champagne shade with a pearlescent finish. Perfect in the inner corners.

  • Neutral - a light mauvey/brown with hints of purple/pink with a matte finish. A great crease shade.

  • Personal - a pinky peach satin shade. I use this on the first half of my inner corners a lot as it is such a pretty color, however, you need to build it up as it doesn't last as long as the others.

  • Vogue - a coral/bright peach shade with a matte finish. I  love using this as a transition shade whenever creating warm orange/red looks.

  • Trend - a burnt-orange/rust matte shade. Definitely my favorite shade in this palette. Great in the crease or as an all over lid color.

  • New-tral - a bright cranberry/deep pink with red undertones that is a satin finish. I mostly use this on the outer half of my lids.

  • Tone - a burgundy shade similar to New-tral but with more red/orange to it. It is of a satin finish as well but translates as matte on the eyes. I also like this shade a lot on the outer V of my lids.

  • Custom - a cool-toned matte brown. Nice on the outer V as well to create dimension.

  • Cool - an ivory matte shade that works well as a brow bone highlight or on the lids as base or an all over the lid wash of color.

  • Style - a light pink metallic/foil shade. But even with the glitter, it's still surprisingly smooth and is nice on the center of the lid for that pop of color/glitter.

  • Partial - a metallic dusky rose with lots of glitter it's almost foiled. Looks pretty on the center of the lids as well.

  • Mode - a gorgeous rose gold metallic/foil shade. The most beautiful color in this palette.

  • Adapt - a light mauvey brown with a matte finish. Another great transition color and is really nice in the crease.

  • Buff - a taupe brown with shimmer. Has a very nice texture and pigmentation. Goes well on the outer half of the lid.

  • Smooth - a dark taupe brown similar to Buff but has less shimmer as this has a satin finish.

  • Strong - a very dark purple, that's almost black, shimmer shade with pink and purple glitters. A little patchy and has fall out, but, can be layered to get an intense shade.

Pros:

- These shades apply smoothly and have a very creamy and buttery feel to them
- They are easy to blend and the shades go well together
- A variety of looks (day or night) can be created with this palette
- Most of the shadows have good staying power
- Most of the shadows do not have fall out
- Comes with a decent eyeshadow brush

Cons:

- Some shades are not for the faint-hearted
- A couple of the shades apply patchy and needs building up
- Not travel friendly because of the size
- Not available in the Philippines

The Final Verdict: Definitely a must buy! One can make several looks with this palette, you can even get away with just using the New-trals row! The shades here may not be for everyone, but, they are for sure unique and are great additions to a collection! Makeup Revolution was also nice enough to throw in more wearable shades in case you're too scared to wear an in your face red or orange look (and according to reviews, some of the bottom row shades are dupes of Urban Decay's Naked 3 palette!). With these shades becoming more and more popular, this palette is a really good alternative to overpriced palettes out there.

See yah on my next post!
